Our Story

The Challenge
In oncology care, understanding a patient's quality of life (QOL) between visits is crucial yet often overlooked.
Traditional methods of collecting patient data are cumbersome and ineffective. This leads to low engagement rates and missed opportunities for early intervention.
This gap in care can result in preventable complications and reduced QOL for cancer patients.
Our Solution
mQOL bridges this critical gap through an innovative SMS-based platform that achieves over 90% patient engagement.
Our platform enables healthcare providers to capture insights while maintaining simplicity for both patients and clinical staff.
Our Founders' Story : From the Boardroom to the Hospital Room
mQOL was not built in a boardroom. Like many great stories, it began with a personal experience that exposed a major flaw in oncology care and drove three founders from very different backgrounds to build something groundbreaking.
Frank Pezzullo saw the problem firsthand when his aunt was battling cancer. She was treated at a world-class academic hospital, surrounded by top physicians. Yet, despite the advanced medicine, something crucial was missing, her voice.
Outside of scheduled check-ins, her doctors had no structured way of knowing what she was experiencing daily. The relentless fatigue, the nausea, the emotional toll, none of it was proactively captured. There was no way for her to engage with her care team in real-time, no mechanism for doctors to recognize when a drug was not working or when an adverse event was occurring. Her suffering was invisible.
Frank brought his frustration to a longtime friend and biotech executive, Dr. Pierre Sayad. With over two decades in pharmaceutical drug development and commercialization, Pierre had spent years sitting with medical teams, reviewing clinical trial data. And yet, time and time again, one critical piece of the puzzle was missing, that of real-time patient experience.
Quality-of-life data collection in trials was slow, fragmented, and often useless by the time it reached doctors. The industry relied on outdated, paper-based surveys taken weeks apart, failing to capture what patients were going through in the moment. The system was not just flawed — it was failing patients.
Enter Aaron Gette, a seasoned technology leader with deep expertise in digital platforms. When Frank and Pierre shared their vision, Aaron immediately saw how AI, machine learning, and seamless digital connectivity could transform this frustration into something powerful.
Together, they realized they each brought a unique perspective:
🔹 Frank, from the patient and caregiver lens
🔹 Pierre, from the clinical development and biotech side.
🔹 Aaron, from the technical, big-data, and AI-driven world
And that is how mQOL was born.
The first-ever SMS-based, HIPAA-compliant, AI-powered platform designed to revolutionize how patient-reported outcomes are captured, shared, and acted upon. No apps. No downloads. Just seamless, effortless communication between patients and their healthcare teams.
At mQOL (Measuring Quality of Life), the mission is clear: Quality of life is not just a secondary metric. Rather, it is fundamental to the success of cancer treatment. By continuously and proactively gathering real-time patient data, the platform empowers doctors with the insights they need to intervene earlier, personalize treatments, and prevent unnecessary suffering.
This is not just about technology—it is about changing the way cancer care is delivered. mQOL more than yet another health tech company; it is a movement. Because when you truly measure quality of life, you can finally improve it.
The "Hawk" Program
The 'Hawk' Program honors Frank's Aunt Diedre ('Didi'), who defied a 6-month prognosis to bravely battle cholangiocarcinoma for five years.
Known affectionately as 'Didi the Hawk' for her keen awareness and love of nature, she inspired a program that gives healthcare providers a bird's-eye view of patient progress beyond clinical visits.
It aims to ensure healthcare providers stay vigilant for potential adverse events, aligning care with patients' lived experiences.
